The McKee-Beshers WMA is made up of 2000 acres just outside Gaithersburg, MD. In the fall and winter, floods are deliberately caused to create reservoirs for ducks and other waterfowl that migrate to Maryland for the winter. This park also features a training ground for hunting dogs.
Stretching 184.5 mi (297 km), the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historic Park once acted as a lifeline for communities and businesses along the Potomac River. Today the canal acts as a recreational destination, offering mule-draw boat trips and trails to hike, bike and jog on. The main entrance, visitor center and coach parking is located in Great Falls, Maryland, just outside Reston.
