    Potomac River

    Often referred to as the Nation's River, since it runs through the capital city of Washington DC, the Potomac River is known for its historic, recreational and scenic significance. Beginning as a small spring in Fairfax Stone, West Virginia, this river flows for more than 380 mi (612 km) to Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.

    Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historic Park

    Stretching 184.5 mi (297 km), the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historic Park once acted as a lifeline for communities and businesses along the Potomac River. Today the canal acts as a recreational destination, offering mule-draw boat trips and trails to hike, bike and jog on. The main entrance, visitor center and coach parking is located in Great Falls, Maryland, just outside Reston.

    Chesapeake Bay
    Surrounded by Virginia and Maryland, Chesapeake Bay is the largest estuary in the United States. The Susquehanna River, the longest river on the American East Coast, empties into Chesapeake Bay at Havre de Grace, Maryland. The Bay is a popular spot for boating, fishing and sailing.
